Default Should CGI characters be able to win an Oscar for best actor/actress?

I don't mean a voiceover like Shrek, I mean like Gollum from LOTR, the guy who played him did all the movements and voice, is it not just an eloborate costume?

With more and more CGI being involved in films i believe the academy should make a separate category to recognise the actors behind these roles. As well as Gollum Andy Serkis also portrayed the ape in King Kong. Maybe a full 'best actor' is going too far....but they should be recognised.

I'm pretty sure, around the time of Return of the King, of Andy Serkis getting a best supporting actor nomination, but they decided not to go ahead...you can't blame them - good though Mr Serkis was, there were simply too many other people involved in the process of getting him on the screen....

I'm still holding out hope for Woody from "Toy Story" to find the right role to showcase his Oscar potential....You'd think Tom Hanks could pull some strings....

I think that the actor behind the CGI character should have a chance depending on how involved they were. For example, Andy Serkis put in hours and hours of time working to develop the character Gollum. He wore special suits to help the animators and to be able to act along with the actors to get a more genuine performance.
