Short haircuts, like Katie Holmes' or Rihanna's, are currently in. Since you're 9, you probably would look best with a more subtle version. My best friend recently got a bob that came about an inch above her shoulders, and it had some loose layers. She looks super cute.
And if you don't want short hair, layers are always in. It gives your hair movement and texture.
