Tesco actually use the O2 network. Try the SIM as there is a very remote posibility it may work.
However the official answer is to contact Tesco customer services.
However, since the V3 is an easy phone for a dealer to unlock, I would suggest finding a local phone shop or market stall that does unlocking (not somewhere like Phones 4u of carphone warehouse). They should be able to unlock it in about 30 mins and for less than £10.
