Is it possible to hack someone's phone with knowing thier mobile number?

I was just wondering, knowing someones mobile or home telephone number, is it possible to hack? also if someone has your mobile or home telephone number, what is the worse thing they can do with it.
can they use my number to join websites that have to pay etc? or to receive junk mail, and mail bombing
