I remember him always on the news with his posh accent condeming English football fans as the scum of the earth, he was more anti English than even the Juventus fans at that time and I wondered what his problem was. Anyway I haven't heard anything about him for 23 years and just saw him at the Olympics representing Britain.

There was a subset of English football fans who were scum of the earth. I don't intend to stand up for a Tory, but Liverpool have to take the brunt of responsibility for the European ban.

I don't know if the changes brought into the game because of Heysel are completely responsible, but English crowds are far better behaved nowadays - still vestiges of racism - but not as widespread as it was.
