I'm getting a baby ball python?

would it be a bad idea to start of in say a 30 gallon tank? because i've heard that starting in a large tank can cause them to get stressed and die

30 gallon is just fine as long as you have a hide box for it. Most snakes feel safer if they have somewhere dark they can curl up in for the day. Ball pythons are good snakes and dont usually die when you first get them. A big tank isnt a problem.
