Default AVG antivirus question?

ok, so i was downloading something, and it popped up saying "Threat detected, Trojan Horse"
then 2 options
Move To Vault or Ignore
i chose move to vault

my question is, can i safely use the rest of the program files?
and has the threat been removed?

many thanks to all that help
ps: why the hell didnt my Norton 2.0 detect it?!
why did a free program do a better job than a £50 program?!
what does everyone mean by "they counter-act oneanother etc. one of my contacts tried explaining it to me but i didnt really understand and didnt want to waste his time asking about it to be honest.

Point one: Norton is less use than a condom machien at the Vatican.

Point two: irrespective of what you use, you should never use two anti-virus live scanners. At most, you should use one live scanner, and one scan-on-demand - and even then, you're likely to enter into a world of confusion when they try to scan each others' quarantine zones...

Its probably being hosted by a backdoor trojan which you have to find first, if you remove (delete) the virus from the vault the backdoor trojan will just re-produce again, the free addition avg doesn't remove backdoor trojans.
Run malwarebytes to find the malware and then remove (delete) the viruses from avg vault

Yes its safe to carry on....but dont just put it in the vault.....delete it
Plus, its best not to have 2 antivirus's going at same time, they work against each other

Yes you can safely use other programmes.
Once virus is in virus vault, threat is removed.
Besides,go to menus of avg,
History
virus vault & delete virus entries.
Normally, system files & other programme files do not get infected,if your computer has uptodate updates downloaded from microsoft, due to application of hotfixes.

Best practice is,
1.have teporary internet files deleted on regular basis.
control panel,internet options,,
under browsing history
click
delete. files ,cookies,history.

2.Have avg updated regularly,
Have system scanned on regular basis.
3.Avoid un-known sites.
3.avg has site advisor(green ticked star),
it is helpful.

ps: No single antivirus programme has 100 % detection success rate.
Still some have better detection.AVG, is one amongst them.
This is based on personal experience & what others say.

No... Once in the virus vault, is not a threat to your PC anymore... You disabled it.. Delete it now..

And Norton Sucks!!!!!

Yep you did right. The vault will keep it safe. However, it would be advisable to right click and run avg again on that program to just be sure it got it all.
Norton is a pain and a huge resource user. AVG by far is the better and more user friendly. PC magazine sometimes does a poll and shows all various anti virus programs and compares them. Quite revealing.

I used to use norton and it couldn't detect any files then i search online for a better antivirus programs which was Avast, It was so much better than Norton. If avast has detected a virus then it will have a warning sign pop up kind of thing saying that it has detected a virus, Kaspersky is another good one as well, it can detect viruses but you will have to pay for it. Avast is free because i use home edition, free of charge. Avast is good stuff.
