I'd like to buy a laptop basically a mini entertainment unit. Can anyone advise me?

Take a serious look at a Mac Mini.

Comes with a remote control. Then you just need to buy a monitor as big as you can afford, a USB TV dongle, and you're set. DVDs, MP3s, photo shows, TV shows, all via remote control.

Oh, plus they're a decent computer too.
