My laptop is running reallllly slow, what can i do to speed it up?

it isnt a one off thing, its been doing it for a while.
is there anything i should do, certain things i cant install etc.

i do have alot of films and about 6 gb of music, does deleting these kinds of files help speed it up?
i dont only have 6GB taken up
its a 70GB capacity and i have used 65GB

dont know where though!
