question about reformatting laptop?

okay i don't know much about this stuff so i am going to ask someone to reformat mine for me, but before i do i just wanted to know, why is it that whenever i get it reformatted i can't play dvds on my laptop? like its been uninstalled or something?
is there any way to avoid this?

reformatting the laptop means u remove all software n programmes on ur computer, so u will need 2 re-install the dvd player software
