Cant access my desktop?

I cant access my desktop on my system neither can I save anything on the desktop a message cant access drive M: appears which is a network drive. whenever I restart or shudown the system it starts syncronising with th server how can I end this and have my desktop access?

start in safe mode by pressing F8 as the computer starts. Go to 'my network places' & delete drive 'M' (right - click & select 'disconnect network drive')
