Recording DVD to laptop hard disk?

i want to download the first few minutes of a DVD movie onto my laptop. Is there anyway to do this, without downloading the entire DVD movie, as I guess that could take hours?

You could rip the DVD using DVD Shrink ( http://www.dvdshrink.org/ )---it only takes about 10 minutes---and then edit out what you don't want using Windows Movie Maker or a similar program.
